Oprah needs to hear from you! Are you not sure what to say, or how to get started? Well that is why I wrote this letter. Feel free to copy/paste and send to her. The more often we send her suggestions for doing a show on breastfeeding, the greater our chances will be for seeing that show in her last season. We can do this – so copy/paste this, and send it to Oprah on her website. Don’t forget to sign your name!
Healthy People 20/20 – Breastfeeding is a priority
The Oprah Show,
Oprah has always been a champion of teaching people how to live better lives and has taken a special interest in making people more aware of health risks and changes people can make to be healthier overall.
The US Dept. of Health and Human Services just released the Healthy People 2020 goals and I am pleased to see that improving breastfeeding rates is once again a priority. In addition it mentions that mothers need more support from health professionals and employers to remove some of the stumbling blocks that keep breastfeeding mothers from reaching their own breastfeeding goals.
The US has some of the best doctors in the world, an amazing cache of monetary resources to fund medical research, and more opportunity for success that anywhere else in the world, yet our breastfeeding rates lag behind other first-world countries.
How can The Oprah Show help? It’s simple, you dedicate a show to breastfeeding, discussing why it is important for moms and babies and address the barriers women face in reaching their breastfeeding goals. This is the last season of The Oprah Show, so please consider using your position to talk about the movement to increase breastfeeding rates, as exposure on your show would be worth so much. Most people have probably never heard of the Healthy People 2020 goals, but talking about it on The Oprah Show could change all of that in one hour!
Thank you,
Lara
Breastfeeding Show
The Oprah Show has been instrumental in educating people about their health, living healthy lifestyles, and has even helped save people’s lives by urging them to seek medical advice for life-threatening conditions. Your viewers turn to you and your expert panel of advisors to educate them and spread awareness.
I am asking you to feature breastfeeding as a topic on your show. Why? Because many people are not aware of how important breastfeeding is for babies’ health and for mothers’ health. Unfortunately because many are not aware of the many benefits, breastfeeding mothers don’t get the support from medical professionals, family, friends, employers, or society at large, that they need to be successful. The Federal Government could save BILLIONS of dollars a year if more women breastfed exclusively for the first 6 mo. of their babies’ lives. If we can get people talking about breastfeeding, the support network for women will become stronger.
Please take the time to consider breastfeeding as a show topic. More people than ever are watching The Oprah Show, and I truly feel that this is a topic that matters, will have a positive impact on many women, and serve to create awareness.

Breastfeeding and Women’s Health
I am asking that you feature breastfeeding as a topic on your show in an effort to raise awareness about this important public health issue.
Many people know that breastfeeding offers many benefits for babies, but the benefits of breastfeeding for mothers are just as important, and not as widely recognized. Featuring breastfeeding on your show would be a wonderful opportunity to not only educate people about the health benefits it offers babies, but also health benefits for mothers. If more people learn and understand how positively breastfeeding can affect women’s health, hopefully it would result in greater support for those who choose to breastfeed.
Here are a list of long-term health benefits for women who breastfeed that have been identified by various medical studies:
Reduced risk of Diabetes
Increased Cardiovascular health
Breast cancer reduction
Ovarian cancer reduction
Uterine cancer reduction
Weight loss
Lower risk of osteoporosis
Lower risk of anemia
With all of these amazing benefits, why shouldn’t we be talking about breastfeeding and increasing awareness? The Oprah Show has taken a special role in increasing awareness about health, especially for women, so I ask that you please take the time to consider featuring this topic on your show.
Thank you for your time,

Breastfeeding/Breast Cancer Connection
Every October we work to create awareness for breast cancer. In recent years the survival rate for breast cancer has increased dramatically with early detection and treatment measures. Most women, however, don’t know that there is a connection between breastfeeding and breast cancer. Women who breastfeed can reduce their chances of breast cancer by up to 60%! So what if through education we could PREVENT some women from ever developing breast cancer? The positive impact would be immeasurable.
Breast cancer reduction is just one of the many benefits breastfeeding offers mothers, others are reduced risk of diabetes, lower ovarian cancer rates, healthier heart, and the list goes on. In addition, breastfeeding works to protect babies by building their immune systems, protects them from childhood cancers, and obesity throughout their entire lives, to name a few benefits.
I have written so many letters requesting that you feature a show on breastfeeding, that I have almost lost count. I spend time writing you because I feel like this would be a valuable show that would benefit many people in your audience. Please consider featuring this important topic during this your last season.
Thank you,

Breastfeeding awareness show
Breastfeeding. What’s the big deal? Who cares? Why talk about it? Well in light of the recent the infant formula recall, millions of units tainted by beetle larva and beetles themselves, resulting in gastrointestinal issues in babies, one may suggest to d that it is time to discuss it. Breastfeeding saves babies’ lives, can save the US gov’t billions in reduced healthcare costs, and can reduce risk of diabetes and breast cancer is women who breastfeed. It has been scientifically documented that breastfeeding results in higher IQs, lowers obesity rates in children and makes it less likely in adults who were breastfed as babies. First Lady Michelle Obama and the US Surgeon General both recently spoke about the importance of improving breastfeeding rates.
Please take the time to consider featuring breastfeeding as a topic on your show. Every mother has to decide how she wants to feed her baby, and if we educate women about the benefits of breastfeeding then they will be making more informed choices. Then hopefully we as a nation can begin to provide adequate support to help women breastfeed successfully. The Oprah Show has the ability to start a national dialogue about important issues, and the time to talk about breastfeeding is now!

Breastfeeding awareness show
Oprah,
I am writing you to encourage you to feature breastfeeding as a topic on one of your shows in the 2010-2011 season.
The health benefits of breastfeeding, for both mother and baby, have been scientifically documented. However, many new moms who choose to breastfeed do not have the adequate support in the early weeks when it can be the most challenging, to succeed. Lack of education about breastfeeding in general, and lack of knowledge and communication between health professionals and patients, is an issue that needs to be addressed.
Additionally, many moms do not feel that society at large welcomes breastfeeding in public. For mothers who are unsure and not confident in doing so, this can certainly discourage them from continuing to breastfeed past early infancy. The American Association of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding for at least the first year, and sadly there is a stigma for breastfeeding a baby that is 12 months, as opposed to 12 weeks. I am sure you have heard of news stories where women have been asked to cover their babies heads while they nurse them, or to quit nursing in public altogether. Babies have the right to eat in public, just as everyone else, whether that meal comes from a bottle or a breast!
When you feature a topic on your show it enters the national consciousness, and inevitably awareness is heightened as a result. So I ask you on behalf of all mothers who breastfeed, who plan on breastfeeding, and all babies who deserve the best baby food that nature has to offer, to please feature a show on this important topic.
Thanks for your time,

Breastfeeding Awareness/Education
I am writing you as part of the MamaPear Designs “Oprah Breastfeeding Blitz”, a campaign intended to get The Oprah Show to feature a show on breastfeeding.
Every pregnant woman must decide how she is going to feed her baby. Some of us know from before we are pregnant what our choice will be, others discover what we want to do shortly before the baby comes after researching, studying and figuring what works best for us. One thing is true for all of us, motherhood has many difficult adjustments, and sometimes the choice to breastfeed can seem like we opted for the more difficult choice, and that does not have to be the case. I chose to breastfeed, because I followed the research that has proven it is best for my babies and myself, I had to seek support on my own. I was dedicated, I was committed, I refused to give up, but some moms don’t have that support, or are not forthcoming with asking questions. For those moms, we need greater support resources to help them succeed.
Bottom line, new breastfeeding moms need more support than is out there. We need our OBs/Pediatricians to be knowledgeable about breastfeeding, we need hospitals to be more supportive of our choices, we need employers to offer appropriate places to pump without intrusions while we are at work, and we need society at large to support us if we choose to feed our babies in public.
So why The Oprah Show? Breastfeeding is a hot topic that is making headlines on a daily basis. We are asking for a chance to address the situations mentioned above. Please help all the mothers who are not sure of they want to breastfeed, and who are currently struggling with issues related to breastfeeding, and feature this topic on your show.
Thank you,

Breastfeeding Awareness
I am writing you to ask that you do a show on breastfeeding. It is a relevant topic that needs to be discussed in a way that it never has before, and your show can bring much needed exposure to the cause of breastfeeding awareness.
I am a lactivist, I am pro-breastfeeding. I am not against formula feeding, but I do not think that most moms do not get the education and support they need to make a really informed choice about how to feed their babies. Breastfeeding comes easily for some moms, and for others it takes much more work, but I have never heard a mother say, “You know I don’t think it was worth it to breastfeed, sorry I wasted my effort.”
There are so many reasons to breastfeed, and many moms-to-be have not been made aware of its countless benefits. Most obstetricians do not really know that much about it, don’t bother talking about it with their pregnant patients, aren’t aware of the many resources available for support, and most hurtful of all to a breastfeeding mother’s success, they give out formula samples for free. Unfortunately, pediatricians many times fall in line with OBs who know no better, and are not much help either to a nursing mom who may be struggling – they give out formula too.
So what I am asking, is for you to show the benefits of breastfeeding, the struggles, the social aspects associated with it, and a comparison of US rates to other countries. Can you please help mothers out – this is a choice we all make, no matter our social status, our religion, or our ethnicity.
Thanks for your time,
Lara Audelo

Breastfeeding Awareness
Producers of the Oprah Show,
Please feature breastfeeding as a topic on your show. Regardless of the fact that breastfeeding has been scientifically proven to have many benefits for mothers and babies, it is still not the norm. Let’s find out why despite the recommendation of the American Association of Pediatrics that women breastfeed exclusively for the first 6 months of a baby’s life, less than 20% make it that far! The topic of breastfeeding would make for a great show, it is in line with Oprah supporting the food revolution that is finally sweeping our nation, and with the show’s audience consisting of women, the majority of whom are mothers, this topic is sure to gather a large audience.
When Oprah speaks, the world listens. Please help in creating greater national awareness, which hopefully result in more support for breastfeeding moms. I am supporting the MamaPear Designs “Breastfeeding Blitz,” and our goal is to get Oprah’s attention before the end of her final season – we are ready to make this happen!
